You're experience bombing the new strats
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:09:03 AM »
Rooks were taking bases from the knights like crazy in orange. Wasn't long before we took the bases closest to their capital. Seeing how their capital was right there, we decided to resupply the base and go bomb back to the stoneage! I always wanted to do a low level attack run with B-25's but never have done it, now was the perfect time. Took B-25C's with glass nose, 6 500lb bombs set to drop at .50 delay, and formation, and climbed up to 4,000ft (2,000 ft above the target). BIG MISTAKE! I was getting chewed up by the flak towers badly (Nice work on the flack tower HT! Very effective!). I was able to drop all bombs from all planes and successfully hit my target, the training center, and now it was time to get out of the ack! lead bomber didn't make it long and lost it's tail 10 seconds after we hit the target. The remaining two bombers were able to escape the ack after weaving and bobbing through the ack, but bomber #2 (which was now lead bomber) had two oil leaks and would not make it back to base. I decided to go strafe a target before I ran out of oil. This time I went in right along the roof tops trying to avoid the ack as much as possible. My engines gave out just as I got within gun range. I held the trigger down hoping to get 1 more building destroyed, but was unable to kill any. With my last bomber I again weaved through the ack at roof top level avoiding bullets and chimneys ( :lol ) and made it out.

I got back home with 1 bomber left with an oil leak, dead engine, 2 fuel leaks, and more holes that I thought a B-25 could take! TY HTC for adding yet another feature to the game that is just tons of fun!  :salute :salute

What are your tales on attack these new targets?  :D I hear there have been some massive bomber runs on it already!  :O

I'd like to ask HT if he is considering parachute bombs for the game. Would really make the B-25 (and other bombers that used these bombs) an excellent low level bomber!

[boringstory]

Mine is a bit different story.  Happened yesterday on the pizza map.
I decide to go on an high alt bombing run in B-17 to hit radar, city, and ammo factory. Level off at 24k, above the strats is reported an high enemy pony patrolling, soon he spots me, gets on my dead 6 position (slurp) he took an high amount of .50s and he blew up. I barely have the time to calibrate and release bombs on radar and then on the industrial zone in the centre. In the bombsight I notice something weird while dropping: the flaks were shooting at the ground. I bring up the radio and I see BRO06552 in range, as soon as I ask where are you BRO I hear he is on the ground and then I went out of range. I check the map, there was no spawn in there. V34 was the nearest base - about 1 sector from the strats.
Soon I ask him on country channel, he drove for 45 mins in his Tiger  :lol. But he was doing one hell of a job destroying the strats.
Then while RTB'ing in my B-17 knights were on a roll and took V34 V44 A61. I decide anyways to bring him some supplies - he ran out of rounds - from the nearest Airbase: A65, 3 and a half sectors away.

We coordinate each other, he drives outside the strat about 5 miles, I fly my longest C47 sortie ever. I'm bringing him some supplies with a box of the finest beer, flying NOE for 50 miles and always keeping an eye above myself. I finally get there and I meet BRO06552 near an abandoned barn just outside the capital in his Tiger. He takes up the supplies and drives back his tiger to the strats. Knights were becoming crazy trying to understand what was going on there. At the end of the story the radar and the refinery were both down to the single digits.

<S> BRO06552  :salute

p.s.: I bite my ears to not have more screenshots of the meeting, it was in very nice surroundings.

My experience has best been stated in another thread. Overall, you either go fast, or heavily armed, heavily escorted, and/or very high.

My first try was on baltic in LW blue.  Went in KI-67's dodging radar around bases, encountered a 163 right off and quickly took his wing off befor he could do any real damage to my formation.
Made it to target and bombed troop training fairly well and was chased out by a 109 and another 163. Smoked the 109 but the 163 got 2 of my flight befor it gave up the chase. Ended up ditching the last plane in the trees.

second attempt, Rookland in LW Orange, KI's again 20K.
Made it a good way in with a red dar shadowing me in the next sector, I finally could see a dot behind me and it turned out to be DackOne in a 38.   We exchanged some 1K shots, He smoked my left hand drones engine and poked a few holes in the first exchange.
Dack dove off to the right and swung up behind for another volley poking more holes and I returned the favor.
I think he finally got impatient because in his last attempt he hung out on my 6 for far to long and well, here is the result
After he lost that engine he just couldn't keep up with my rice paper planes and i proceeded to bomb the city strat bringing it down by 10%.

I then dove away because i was out of tail gun ammo and ran all the way back to bishland NOE having to leave my wounded bomber behind as it couldn't keep up.  Reports vary on what happened to that brave crew.

I believe damage landed was around 1600 or something.

The latest flight was Sat. night with Thndr's squad.  He took several flights of 234's from directly east and I lead a group of KI's Escorted by a few 47's from the NE for who ever couldn't afford or didn't want to fly the 234's.   It worked out well Thndr's group encountered a few 262's I believe but made it to target just before our KI's got there. we made our run on radar and city and the 234's hit ord.
We then fought our way out against several cons losing FlackBaits flight in the process.   The 3 flights that made it out landed about 1500 to 1600 damage each if I remember right, seems to be about standard for KI's.
It worked out well

the strat / HQ for the southern team is unfair on smpizza as is.

A30 is capturable when it is the closest field to the Strat.  I would say it needs to be moved 1 sector SW closer to the un-capturable fields.

This isn't a whine I enjoyed killing the guys bombing it but in fairness it needs to be modified.  Plus the dweebs on rooks had an easy time adding to their damage scores!

I love to take B-17s in for an hour + flights, some times by myself, some times with others.

I have never killed so many 163s!
