Disco problem cause found?
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:43:59 AM »
Since the new version of A/H I have discoed several times. Never had any disco problems for a long time, and nothing changes on my system. Pretty much don't download anything, and just us it for my normal activities.

Did a process check and found " googleupdate.exe" that I had not seen before. I don't use google for anything, or visit their site. I do have GoogleEarth, but use it only once in a while and like it when I need it. I can not figure out if " googleupdate.exe" is related to GoogleEarth or not.

I discoed again last night after 20 minutes. I went looking and found " googleupdate.exe", and ended the process. I didn't have a problem the rest of the night.  :noid

Any ideas, and is their an option in GoogleEarth to disable updates? I couldn't find anywhere to disable updates. Assuming this is related to GoogleEarth that is. I do use Google as a search engine at times also.

There are a number of background processes that will cause a disco.  iTunes (actually, anything from Apple), Intuit products (Quickbooks, Quicken...), and almost all anti-virus programs.  Microsofts own updater can cause it as well.

All these background processes take priority away from the game and interfere with network operations.  They may not cause a disco today, but they will eventually cause it.  It is just a matter of time and timing.

I know that there is a 'Google Updater' on mine, Vista.  It's located in C:/Program Files/Google/Google Updater.
Open Google Updater, click on preferences and you can select from auto-updates, or update on your own.
Don't know about Google Earth though...

Thanks Skuzzy, and I have every kind of update turned off. This is a new one that I don't know where it originates from. I turn the process off, but it is back after a restart of my system, at a smaller memory usage though.

Running XP and didn't see anything exactly like that. Will keep fishing around. Thanks

Yes, GoogleEarth installs its updater.  If I am not mistaken (which is entire possible)   :headscratch:, you should be able to open up your control panel, go to programs and it will be listed as one of the programs.  You can then uninstall the updater.

My GF put that crap on my old 'puter one day while I was away.  When I got back and saw it, there was all kinds of watermelon I had to remove -- including the GoogleUpdater.

PS... she won't make that mistake again .... especially on my new 'puter.   :D

Thanks for the help, and I disabled it. Can't figure out how it got there though.  :noid
