Computer Restarts itself.

Twice now since the new patch my computer will just restart when playing AH.
First time it happend at 25k trying to intercept some bombers.
Second time it happend after I logged in and I went to kitchen to get a beer and I heard my pc beep and restart.

I should also say I did a full system scan with my kaspersky about a week ago. I dont know if that would have anything to do. I do have my pc overclocked a bit so I did turn up the voltage after the first time it restarted. Next day is when it happend again. Tonight I am going to turn down my overclocking a bit to see if that helps. I dont want it to restart in FSO.

I should say I have my pc OC to 3.8. My temps are 40C idle and 60C full load.  

I just turned it down to 3.6 and am running the same voltage to see if that was my problem. Has only happend in AH. When I use prime95 to load my pc it does not restart.

If my thinking is right, if it restarts in game again its not my overclocking. If I go without any problems then it was my overclocking.

Here is my test after turning it down to 3.6

Your PC is nearly identical to mine, except my graphic card is an 8800. I'm not overclocked at all, game runs great. CPU is normally about low 20's Centigrade, MB is 30ish (I have TONS of fans) Your 60 degrees CENTIGRADE seems frightfully high to me (always creeps up when playing game). AH, above all else, is the best computer heater-upper I have....I'm guessing your restarts are from the heat. Always good to have fans sucking in air from front, blowing out in back, at the bare minimum. I'm no computer geek though, like many on here

I don't know about the E8500, but I know most CPUs had a "shut-off" temp of 60-70C in BIOS.  If it hits that temp it will reset the PC to prevent failure.  It's possible the temp is hittng it while in AH, and from I've found with Stress-tests is they aren't the greatest "tests", I've had OCCT say max OC on my GPU is stable when in fact it will crash the comp in a matter of seconds from AH.

Just try lower OCs til you find one that lasts with AH open.

Tonight went through the whole fso without any problems. Temps above are lower than what it was running at 3.8.  When I overclocked it my goal was not to go over 60c when doing the stress test. In the bios I think the temp was quite hi before it would restart. I will check it though. I have not checked my temps when in AH. I will do that tomrrow.

I too have the 9800 vid cards and they generate enormous heat, especially when playing AH.  When playing the game, I take off the side cabinet panel and use a small floor fan to increase cooling as I've had this same issue in the past. I have temp gauges on my cabinet and the GPU skyrockets when playing.  It has to be a heat related issue.

You got aftermarket sinks/coolers too I suppose? I can't even get those temperatures when I get one of those GIANT fans and put it on my PC if it can make that much of a difference I think I will consider them even more than I was before.

Perhaps your system memory or your graphics memory is running too hot, either of which, when over heated or overclocked, can cause a PC to restart.

Seems to be doing good now. I was hoping it was my video card overheating that way I could convince my wife I need a new one.

I want a new one before SH5 comes out

1 120 pusher, 2 140 pushers, 1 200 sucker in CPU/mobo zone,  with another 120 in dual PSU zone  with the option to add more  :D  and I'm STIL runnin around 50C,lol
