The other possible "protection mode" might be if HDCP fails...  Still, if they're blaming your speaker wires, I suspect that they're trying to upsell you some of those overpriced "monster" cables.  That means they're trying to cheat you too.

From that picture it looks like the Blu-Ray player is integrated into the AVR/receiver.   If that's the case then they could be on to something when they say to check the wires.  I've seen blu-ray players lock up because of heat but not actually go into a protection mode.  I don't think an HDCP failure can cause that, you just don't get an image on screen in that case.  If all your speaker cable runs are going to the back of the unit then a short could be causing the issue.  It doesn't take much to cause the short, speaker cable is typically stranded and all it takes is a couple of those strands of copper sneaking over to touch the other binding post to cause a short and the receiver to enter protection mode.  I would unhook then reconnect everything to be sure, do it at the receiver and at the speakers.  Heat could also be the culprit as others have mentioned.

On a good system speaker wire and other cables CAN actually affect the characteristics of the sound, but the wire shouldn't make the difference between working and not working if everything is hooked up correctly.

Of course you could just have a bad unit. :)

The receiver portion is overheating.   But what do I know?    If they claim "wiring", return it, the unit will be defective.   Wiring will not put that into protection mode.

I just started working at a place that sells Samsung TVs etc.

I am in the process of buying a Samsung plasma and looking for a blueray player and sound system.

We do not carry any of the Samsung sound systems or blueray players, so i wound up doing a little research on them as they are priced pretty good.

Do NOT buy any of these Samsung blue ray products!!

If you happen to get one that works, immediatly run out and buy a lottery ticket because its your lucky day!

They have had nothing but trouble with anything blueray related.

I also read somewhere that there is a large lawsuit against them for "knowingly" releasing defective equipment.

You can download "firmware" fixes that ultimately don't work.

Products that have been returned to the factory have been deemed "unfixable".

While the Samsung TV line is top notch, the same cannot be said for their foray into the world of blueray.

I get really good deals on Samsung products and I will NOT be purchasing a Samsung blueray player.

For an LCD tv the Samsung LED models have a spectacular picture if they are calibrated correctly (like any new tv)

How long have you had your Samsung sound system?

Did you know that the speaker cones in the Samsung systems are made of seaweed??

The problem Samsung is having is not with their TVs or sound systems, it swith their Blue ray players.

Ive had my Samsung Led TV and surround for about 2 months, i cant believe how crisp and clear everything is, even playing the PS3 games there in HD i guess sense its plugged into the HDMI jack. sound system really thumps the bass and crisp high tones.

Thanks for the tip 1Boner. Their TV's look great...glad to hear they are a good product.
The LED versions really stand out compared with the other brands.

I bought two blue ray players....but so far have not had any problems with them.
<fingers crossed they hold up>

Mano, did you buy Samsung blueray players?

If so please keep me posted

Buy a Sony they invented the blu ray thing. They ought to know what they're doing. I got a PS3 just for it's blu ray potential, ahem cough, splutter. ;) Works great. Next thing is an LED TV.

Ok thanks for all the replies took it back and told them it was a whole heap of things I cant say here, got a refund and bought a simpler 5.1 dvd system ( leaving ps3 blu ray option open) this is what I went with.
