Camo/bivouac shelters for GV's?
« on: December 09, 2009, 11:48:03 AM »
First, I think the game is great and I realize its geared toward aircraft.

...but the ability to cover your gv w/ foliage, thus making said GV more difficult to spot, would rule. Maybe it'd only last a specified time.....or could only be done in specific areas, or w/ specific models....or a jeep could carry netting out to locations...maybe this ability could be chosen in lieu of some ammo...btw, could a WWII era tank really carry 75 shells? Seems like alot but I wouldn't know. And hey, speaking of shells, would anti-personel or anti-aircraft "beehive" type loads be historically appropriate?
Would that be pushing it?

Ammunition capacity differed from model to model but in general the main gun ammo is/was stored in the rear of the turret or in the hull just in front of the engine compartment. A main gun round would generally run between 24 to 37 inches in total length and they were stored in metal racks with either square openings or tubes. The Sherman could carry around 90 rounds, German tanks could carry 75 to 85 depending on the model.

I agree with the need for some type of Icon removal only if one turns off the engine and sits in the exact same spot for a given amount of time (without shooting) to simulate the crew dismounting and putting up the "cammo" that would hide the GV from the red planes. When the GV is all "covered" the driver can start the engine and put it in gear and the gunner can shoot, but when the GV moves, the Icon returns. Does that make sense?

It would make perfect sense if gv's had icons but i like the idea. as far as the beehive shells i have no idea... :headscratch:

Good idea, but shooting should make the icon visible for around 3 seconds, and then have it disappear (noise and smoke from barrel).  This would prevent a hordeof GV's hiding out and pounding a base to pieces undetected.

Beehive rounds would be great, that way I could get those pesky IL-2's that keep buzzing my turret.  On the other hand, you should only have about 10-20 of them, to prevent tanks being used a portable 5" substitute.

GV's do have icons that are visible from the air, currently. I agree with making the icon reappear for a few secconds after shooting. +1  :aok

Anything you could hit with a beehive round (which I think were brought around post-WWII) can currently be dealt with using any lethal ammo. Many an Il-2 and B-25 have taken a shell to the face with my name on it.

Agree with the camo desire, though.

+1 for camo. -1 on the beehive round. Not gonna research it but I don't think they were in use during WWII and since they were primarily antipersonnel rounds, I don't think they would do anything for the game that other ammo loads don't already do.  :salute
