90mm Gun Carriage Package M36B2
« on: December 29, 2009, 05:06:01 PM »
Here is an American armored vehicle I would like to see added to the GV set:  M36 "Jackson" after the Confederat General Stonewall Jackson.  It was the American counter to the big guns of the Panther and TigerII.  It housed a 90mm main gun that could put a Tiger out of action andwas quick so it could shoot-n-scoot its way out of danger and into a better defensive position.

Just a quick correction to your first post, it isn't any faster than a Sherman, so it really isn't any better at shoot and scoot than a normal tank.

Open turret would mean lots of whining from turrets knocked out due to strafing.   That alone warrants its inclusion.  :D

Thank you for correcting my post E.  Ok, my intent was to get an armored vehicle with a comparative edge with the Tiger in firepower.  How about the M26 Pershing Heavy Battle Tank?  I do not think the American side in terms of armor is represented as it should be.  What are your thoughts on that???

Since you asked my thoughts, here they are . . .

In terms of priorities of adding to the game, my opinion is that anything that adds something we don't currently have should take priority.

The Pershing's 90mm without APDS was roughly equivalent to the Tiger's 88, and the armor was also roughly equivalent.  So it doesn't bring anything to the game that we don't already have in the Tiger.  My opinion then is that it should be very low priority.

The M-36 with it's open turret and weak armor (relative to the Firefly) would be higher on my priority list than the Pershing, because it would add a "flavor" we don't currently have.

Higher priority still in my opinion should be an early war tank (or several).  An early PzkwIII or earlier version of the IV would fit that bill, as would a French tank or early Brit tank.  The T-34/76 is the earliest tank we have, and in terms of the early war arenas, it deserves to be in the perk-worthy realm rather than your only choice.  A III with a 37mm gun, a IVC with a 75mm howitzer, or any of the slower, relatively lightly armed Western Allied tanks would allow the T-34/76 to shine as it should.  They would also be challenging to use in the LWAs, adding variety there.  I personally already have fun on occasion trying to stalk IV(H)'s with the M-8 or T-34/76, and I think it would be fun and more challenging trying to do so with the III.

I also think turretless tank destroyers like the Hetzer, StuG(any), or SU-85/100/122 should be added sooner rather than later.  They were a very sizable component of German and Russian armored formations, and would certainly be different compared to what we have now.

Again, not to say I wouldn't love to see something like the Pershing, just that I think wider variety should be the goal for the immediate future.

I totally agree with you.  The reason I bring up the Pershing is because of its almost identical similarities to the Tiger.  It would just be nice to get another heavy tank to toil around in.  I always seem to get oneshotted anyway so I do not dare Take anything but M4s and lower.  I think the addition of more GVs would definately spice up the game a bit.  Also in the Russian set should include the JS2-122mm main gun.  Thanks again. :salute
