squadrons are about friends, commitment, loyalty.  To have a group of people to have FUN with and share the good times.

squadrons do not find you and you shouldn't need a squadron for the sake of having one.  These friendships are built up over time and acceptance should be earn't and not given away cheaply.

If your looking to join a squad, don't accept the first offer from anyone. It is a good idea to tag along with the squad awhile to make sure it is a good fit for what you want out of the game. It also gives the squad time to see if your a good fit for the squad.

ventrilo is the best hands down!!  you can always use in game channel....was skype not modelled on it?

The trouble with using the in game channel is no other bugger from The Few uses it, so you end up noticing HUGE silences where it looks like nothings going on but in fact there's all kindsa vox chatter going on on vent instead.  I tried vent, but without an in game cue to say who's transmitting (like you get with in game vox) it's absolutely murder, especially when we all sound alike.

Why is it you guys use ventrilo anyway?

voice clarity.  You don't need to see who is talking because you can tell after a little while.  I hasten to add that we all sound very different!  I mean come on Connery sounds like fat barsteward.  Kazaa sounds like a burberry chav on his moped and I get accused of being Australian by some americans .

I'm l-o-n-g past 21 and can't take a base but my last K/D tour score was over 2 - my word, I qualify for Loose Deuce membership!

But then who'd drink all the Duxford Wing's scotch?

 ;)

Hey Simba,

I have to say there has been great input here. I am not joining any squadron right off the bat, I feel bad turning down offers, but man it is fun travelling a little and seeing how other groups operate! Meeting some fantastic folks too! I am currently in the process of working my way around. If you guys happen to see me on and are doing ops, give me a shout. I appologize to the two groups I have had to beg off on while flying with another one. Let me know next time!

Dragon... Which squadron are you with sir? I will try to find you all tomorrow night if I am home, which I may well be.

Paladin! <S> Sir. How ya been.

After reading this post, i might have one of the answers you have been looking for. I know exactly what you are looking for, and you know i wouldn't join a squadron which doesn't run how we like to operate.

The 82nd FG "Adorimini"

I invite you to look at the site, register on the forums and browse all you want.

Now i would explain what the 82nd is and everything but i mean we have a kickass AHwiki page so why bother? I guarantee you won't be unsatisfied.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/82nd_FG_%22Adorimini%22

Also, 82nd is divided into 4 Flights. Red, Blue, Yellow and Purple of course.

Pal, 82nd is like, if not, better than how RV used to run things. We are Tactical, Disciplined, and Professional squadron, everything you would expect. Formation Flying is a given. Formation Take-off is also, a given. Even formation landing. We take off in Flights, We kill in Flights, We come back in Flights. We do everything from Bomber escort of the 91st (thunderegg) to GV killing and everything in between. We do FSO every month and have a blast. We are in the AHXARL (air racing). We do AVA on occasion. Right now i believe we are 17 active members strong. We are a proud squadron that every member has a personalized Sig and optional P-38 Avatar.

Now, i know your thinking, "P-38? i'm not flying that" lol. We aren't strictly P-38 all the time 24/7 but that is our plane of choice. I used to hate the 38 but after a couple of months in the DA with Schwalbe (CO) i've learned to love the 38.

Also please check out the recruitment video. Well that seems like enough for one post lol. Any other questions or concerns don't hesitate to pm me. <S>!

If you join the 82nd, never fly in front of Jappa with killshooter disabled.

(I'm still looking for Jappa for that event)   :t

Paladin,
I'll just add that our squad, CMC aka Cutthroats (8=X) has been together since 1996 in Air Warrior. We fly ROOK only. Lot's of pilots and engineers, folks who do it for the fun. MiG is the CO, a private pilot and Boeing Engineer, CapnMike-international pilot 767, Trapp-OBGYN but CapnMikes brother... :)  Chance, CapnMikes uncle- and former Vaught (Corsair) employee, Yippee38-Commercial Pilot..(inactive AH at the moment)....they have skills. :)

Small squad, we can't hoard much, but we do like a defensive posture, or a bomber mission, fighter sweeps...and formation stuff. Low numbers usually: Squad night is Wed, 10PM EST - 12AM. Last week 3 of us, usually 5 is a great turnout. We are always in LW Blue since others fill quickly. May not be for you, but it's there if you want to hang out.
Screenie:
MiG in lead, left A51 (Area51), right side CapnMike, and me trailing.  :joystick: It was a squad attack run that is still fun, in my mind.

I'd settle for a Rook squad that has a good number of ACTIVE members.  I like to work together anytime I fly, and that's best with squaddies.    Of course, I also like to see squad night(s) with an expectation of participation from the squad, so we have the best numbers on those nights.

Any squads out there that has these qualities?
