This is a Christmas Poem that was circulating at work tonight.
"Christmas Patrol"
The town's all aglow with tinsel and light
A blanket of snow makes even dismal look bright
While working a wreck, the injured low moan
I can't help my thoughts from drifting to home
The kids were excited, when I left them last night
Each opened one present, their faces all bright
Tucked them in bed, a big hug for me
Assembled two bikes, put them under the tree
Two hours of sleep, a kiss for the wife
I slipped out the door, this Christmas Eve night
The medics arrive, strobes flashing with light
As it turns the next corner, coming into my sight
Snap back to the present, can't let myself pout
These people are injured, we must get them out
As the patients are loaded, I let myself drift
Totaling up, my own Christmas list
Two family disputes, a drunk at a bar
Two missing kids, now this wrecked car
Call out a wrecker, complete the report
Fill out my notes, preparing for court
A trip to the hospital, blood tests are drawn
Drunk driving's a crime, even this morn
Quick stop at the station, no time to talk shop
Santa comes for Christmas, but daddy's still a cop
