Strat bombing..
« on: December 31, 2009, 07:14:14 AM »
Hi Guys,

The new strat system is fun, just a small wish from me.

Can we get high alt bombers who have flown over a certain distance or time to be joined by an extra drone.

Strat bombing is a long sortie.  I flew 2 the other night and it took me nearly an hour each way on each one.
On the 2nd, I went to the shop while on auto climb.  Once I dropped my eggs I noticed the damage I caused had started to regenerate before I landed.
Seems a long way to go for just a little gain.
The extra drone would help break the boredom and be a bit of a prize for the time spent getting there.
The score:  The extra drone wouldn't count as a death if it's shot down but would count as landed and maybe earn a perk prize for bringing home 4 birds.

Just an idea for long range buff lovers and something juicy for the high alt buff bashers and would bang more of a hole in the strat.

Have a safe new year

Cool idea, having a 4th bird would be fun, though it does bring up a few issues.

1: A B-17 can stay up for, well, ever. Whats to stop someone from doing a spiral climb above their home base, then when they get to altitude, now they have a 4th bird. Now they can attack any base they want to, not just strats.

2: Say you're on a strat run, you have you're 4th bird, you get to target and drop. Remember the drones drop at the same time you do. When you head home the damage that you've done would already be regenerating no matter how many birds you brought along. In my opinion, the reason you go after a strat is to make an impact on the country you're attacking versus grabbing damage points. It's probably better to tweek the times.

Clustered strats farther away...can't do much damage with 1 pilot and three planes...and it repairs too fast.
Hmmmm....
Bring more friends...say 10 friends - that's 30 bombers.  Closer scale to the real 100+ bomber raids deep into enemy territory.  I'm thinking the larger MA maps aren't really made for the lone-wolf bomber pilot unless you want to take down radar at a dozen enemy bases with your pinpoint laser bombsight.

Everyone has the right to play where they want and how they want.  I personally can't see climbing for an hour to 25-30k just to bomb some buildings, then descending for an hour to land again.  But that's just me.  I can see where the dedicated bomber-types get bored and a little frustrated by "damage caused starts to regenerate before landing", but really...so what?  You bombed the strat and damaged stuff to help your side.  What else do you want?

I shoot down an enemy plane - he immediately respawns in a new plane and perhaps comes back and kills me.  Maybe they should increase the down time of a player who gets shot down; maybe 15 minutes in the tower; maybe make him wait until I land or get killed by someone else.

Yeah.  I don't think I'll be doing it again, unless a mission is going there.  It's a bloody long way on your own.
Just a thought tho'.

this is funny we had a mission couple of weeks ago about 15 guys upped in buffs with escorts 1 hour flight and they failed to shut down a medium size field.  they killed something like 1 fh and some flak guns and lots of rabbits.  bishops are famous for their 10 to 15 box formations that will kill a base that will be up before they even land.  99%of the time these missions are just a pork mission, not a base take.  now guys who fly this missions they do it because they have fun.  that's great, that's what the game is about.  but why penalize a guy in the fighter that attacked your buff.  and for 15 minutes?  you shot him down, consider it a little extra and if he comes back to kill you then that's tough.  if he kills you or one of his friends its the same thing for you.  you buff still dead.  or maybe you can just kill him again.

:lol
I think you mis-interpreted my post.  I haven't been in a bomber in quite some time.  I was just making a silly comment to point out how silly it would be to make strats stay down longer just so you can fly an hour to land before it gets repaired.  I also said there's nothing wrong with the dedicated bomber dudes; everyone gets to play the game how they want, and that's what makes it the best thing out there.
