well you are right how you protect your stuff is not the issue to me other then I had a suspicion that something was being left behind causing issues. The program is installed in the C: root directory C:\Hitech Creations UAC has been shut down the day the OS was installed, the current realtek driver is the latest one posted on the realtek web site for this chipset I believe. I do have speakers installed and they have always worked fine. Just for grins I will go look now for a newer driver but like you I do not believe that will be the solution to my issue, nonetheless it can't hurt to try.

Something very odd going on here.

Please email me the complete DXDIAG output.  I do not think it is a software issue, but I need to confirm it.

Will do , I am downloading the realtek driver now also, realtek recommends that I use the latest driver offered by ASUS the Mobo mfg as there may be customizations for this mobo for ASUS but that's what I'm running now so I will try the realtek driver. if it kills it I will simply revert back to this one. I am emailing the dxdiag text file now.

Update I've updated the driver successfully the date of the current driver is 12/25/09 and I do have what seems to be normal audio so at least it didn't hurt unfortunately I still am getting the same "aceshigh.exe has stopped working" when trying to start the program as you suspected. So I am at a loss, this is weird I've been through many aceshigh changes through the years and have never had the issues that I have read about other folks having over the years lol I always thought how lucky was I and now for the first time since 2004 It's kicked my prettythang. I am totally confused why everything seems to be fine other then this one issue, I know my way around a computer, don't profess to be the next great coder but I'm not new and have a big bag of tricks but the bag is coming up blank. This intrigues me, It's to the point that I want to know what the issue is more then I'm interested in the end result. Well I hope you got the full dxdiag report, if you need anything else please don't hesitate to ask. I will run any test you would like. I know you are very busy and appreciate you taking the time, Once again thank you.

Just as a paranoid move, try renaming the "settings" folder to another name and see if that does the trick.

Do you have the high resolution texture pack installed?  Remove it and try.
How about any custom sounds?  Remove them.

I just want to make sure we are working with a default installation of the game, at this point.

I don't have any high res folder, no custom sounds. I do think it's odd the folder contents I will list here.

maps = 2 meg
missions= Mt
missres=Mt
misstemp=mt
settings=Mt
Sights=650kb
skins=Mt
Sounds=35 bytes
squads=Mt
Stickdef=61kb

Mt- empty

This doesn't seem right.
if these folders shouldn't be empty or close it means that during install something is killing them like an av still running or something? Or are these folders normal? I can't imagine sounds=35 bytes is normal?
rename settings which is empty does nothing.
If these aren't supposed to be empty then I have something killing them on install.

the 35 byte sounds folder contains a text file called 'cleaned.txt' and the text file says 'Token file for removing old files'

Sounds are contained in the root installation folder and the file is named "sounds.res".  The "sounds" folder is for custom sound installations.

Oh I kinda thought so those look like 'reserved' files? so the folder sizes seem normal? well I'm still at a loss, I was thinking that simply disabling NOD32 was not doing the trick although I've not seen nod 32 do that before.
