Hi Res Texture Pack
« on: January 15, 2010, 02:27:07 PM »
I did a search on the topic and all I'm seeing is either people trying to get rid of it or changing their monitor.

My problem is getting it to work. I've downloaded it and set the texture size to 1024, but I see no difference in the game. Am I missing a step? the auto installer runs and confirms.

What game resolution are you running?

Yes, all you need to do is to set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 1024, after installing the high resolution texture pack and the game will automatically use them.

I'm with you, from day one in this game I have run the hi resolution in 1024 on two different computers, and I still can't see any difference.  Maybe it's just my old eyes.   :old:

Here you go...

Note the difference in the B-17 cockpit. It's quite evident there. You can't read the labels very well.

Then note the detail on a Ki-84 skin I did. In the cockpit as well as outside on the wing, the shapes are less distinct, the colors blur into each other more. The 1024 version has much crisper lines and details with panel lines, weathering (the scratches and stuff that I put on the wing).

Oh OK, so I am running hi-res, sorry I thought it would affect the world (water, trees, etc) more. Thanks  :salute

It probably does, to some extent. But it's harder to see a difference in trees from 15,000 feet, than it is to see it in your own wing/cockpit.

Nice pic set Krusty :aok I think I finally had someone splain it to me some time back--You can select 1024, but it doesn't do anything (stays at 512?) unless you have the hi-res pack installed. I suppose going back to 512 would negate whatever effect the pack has on one's computer

Precisely. The game saves room by only coming (from the download install) with 512x512. The high-res simply replaces the defaults with the 1024x1024, and if you don't like them just set it lower and they'll be downsized back to 512, 256, or 128, and the end result is the same as it used to be.
