Try double stick tape and a thumbtack. You'll probably learn to avoid the key.

The expression on every young person's face who spent time and effort on vandalizing or mutilating their keyboards to remove the windows key when I tell them there is a simple checkbox option inside windows to completely disable it - is priceless.

I don't want to disable it, there are times I use it, just the left one gets hit accidentally a lot dropping me to desktop.
Hasn't happened since I popped the key out.

NOPE......  YOU CANNOT.  Period, move along, move along.  This isn't new, it's always been like that and always will.  It's basically an addon key that only does that.

Why don't you go buy a Logitech G series keyboard that can turn it off?  WHAT?  You can turn it off?  Yes....  The keyboard basically turns off the input for that button, but that button can only be the Windows button.
