Avatar is visually stunning, but lordy the story and plot suck.

Still waiting for a film to combine incredible visuals with an original / entertaining story. Right now, it seems the two are mutually exclusive.

I saw it in 3D this weekend and was more impressed by the landscape and forest that the plot. Plot was alright, but nothing that I would go and see in the theater again like I did with Star Wars.

Oh yes.. the CGI is impressive indeed... absolutely incredible actually.

It's a shame they wasted such great effects on such a poor movie.

If you sit back and enjoy the pretty pictures, you'll enjoy yourself.  If you actually try to use your brain to figure out WTF they were thinking when they wrote this script then you'll be lucky to make it to the end.

The movie just kept going on and on and on and I kept... waiting for something to impress me and then the movie was over.  Never was I 'immersed' into the story line.  Never did I forget that I was sitting in a theater seat.q

Two things that bothered me the most (aside from the arrows through the canopies)....  the fact that they trusted a multi-billion dollar Avatar to a handicapped ex-marine with no experience whatsoever...

And the fact that they actually CALLED the stuff UNOBTANIUM... in the previews I figured it was a 'joke' name they used slangly for what it is really called.. never in a million years would I have guessed that a substance would ACTUALLY be called that in any kind of serious film.

Oh.. I could just go on and on.. but I will admit the eye candy is stunning.

Bear in mind however, the whole inflation issue and 3D/iMax. Granted, the money is great, but that doesn't mean terribly much. A lot of the money spent on Avatar is for 3D/iMax movies, which are $15 a piece. Even the normal tickets nowadays are $9. So, while it may have made more money than titanic, titanic sold MANY more tickets.

The one in Georgetown is about 7.50 a piece, and about 10 for 3D
No one knows what the future may bring.

Flying dragon things, Giant floating rocks, and you're worried about an arrow through glass?  :lol

Also they addressed the handicapped marine thing in the movie.

Yeah I guess you really weren't paying any attention because they addressed this in the movie, remember it was for his twin brother who died.

As in the Georgetown on the Potomac river?

Now the 3d is down to 10ish, but at release I think it was 15?  I saw it in Chinatown anyway...much more accessible for me.  Didn't realize you were a district resident.  There seems to be a fairly large contingent of us...  :aok

The point of movies(or entertainment for that matter) is to take your psychos to another place....not every movie has to make you think long and hard about the philosophical significance of the common good of man.  If you enjoyed any part of the movie whether it's mutually exclusive or not = success.  You don't see anyone complaining about a bad plot in Veronica Does Mars.  Everything has its purpose.  :old:

I enjoyed the movie, wasn't the best or worst.
Just enjoyable and pretty, I as a rule don't listen to anyone when it comes to movies or books.

Especially when it's shot by an 8 foot tall blue thing riding a dragon...

I took my little sister out to see Avatar. Her and I both enjoyed the movie. It was worth my $15. I normally dont listen to other people's suggestions on seeing a movie. Everybody had differing opinions and you should not let others decide for you.

I was not expecting an intricate storyline but certainly enjoyed the effects. Would not really like to see it on DVD or BlueRay. May go again just because it was so cool to watch.

Finally saw the movie today. I wasn't expecting anything in regards to plot, acting or morality play aspect. I went simply for the effects and it was in the enhanced 3D theater. I was underwhelmed by the 3D as I expected far more in your face scenes. The overall effects and background to the actors was actually nice. I was impressed more by that than the very obvious lame plot. I'm glad I paid to see it, once. I won't again.
