mossie frame lag
« on: March 25, 2008, 05:59:13 PM »
For some reason, evry time i look at a mossie, in the hanger or in the air, i drop to about 3 frames, making flying in, against, or around one imposible.  i've tried rebuilding the cache, and it does nothing.

its getting rather annoying to get killed by even the worst pilots when a mossie shows up because my frames go to garbage levels.

currently running a dell 1501 laptop, 1.6ghz athlon x2, 2.5gigs ram, ati 1150 vid card

any help would be greatly appreciated, and if anybody else is having this problem, please post so we get an idea as to whether or not its a widespread problem.
If i said anything to offend u, plz ignore it.

also, if i say anything stupid or rude, it was probobly too late at night and i was half asleep, so ignore that too.

oh yeah, its all just my opinion, so if ya dont care, just keep it to urself, cuz if u dont care, i sure wont!

What operating system?  You have a dual core AMD CPU which means you will either be patching the operating system (Windows XP) or running the game in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode (Vista).

I have XP, and have already patched and am running in compatability mode anyway, cuz it guarantees that it will run.  I may have patched wrong, and that could be the problem, but i'm not sure.

i went back thru all the patching processes, made sure it was done right, and i can run it without compatibility mode.  i turned down the detail to the absolute bottom, and my frames are very nice, but the mossie still drops it to 5-7 frames.  nothing i can think of to do is working.  its liek the model isnt properly optimized...

I have to pull this old thread up! Because I'm having the exact same problems, and its not only the Mossie.. The framerate drops like a rock when I'm around the A6M2 and the 110 also..
It gets impossible to continue a fight because the lag problem occures every time I look at the opponent plane in shotrange. Or in skin range.. Because that's what it is, a skin problem I think.. But it does not have any affect to turn off other planes skin?!

So what is it about these planes that corrupts my fun??

I have a Asus laptop with Windows7 installed, Intel Pentium Dual Core. Not sure what other specific data this laptop has, I am not that advanced..
But since the difference is a framerate of 2-5 with these planes, against 60 on all the others in the game I am pretty sure its got to be something related to their skin.

I just hate to run like a coward because I see one of these named planes in the air, I know the fight against one of them is pointless..

In the "Video Settings" set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256.
In the games "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel, uncheck "Detailed Terrain".
Also disable other plane skins in the "Options->Graphic Detail" panel.

See what that does for you.

Yes, it could be the maximum texture size. Mine is set at 1024.
But the rest of the mentioned is allready disabled.. I'll try to go down on the texture size then, see what wonders that might do for me.. Thanx.  :aok  :salute

Another thing to check is the "Variance" graph line in the "Net Status" (right-click on the clipboard map for that menu option).

The "Variance" should be flat.  It will not start that way when you first connect as all the data for the arena has not arrived yet, but it should settle down within a minute ot two, depending onthe quality of your Internet connection to the game server.

The Mossie is a sexy girl, she makes everybody stutter a little!!!    All kidding aside, lately I've had some framerate issues but I can't correlate it to the Mossie, which I fly all day long.  I can ask my squaddie's if they suffer if I am in the neighborhood for you.........

so nobody knows what the problem is?  or even any more ideas???

Allright, now I've tried to turn the texture size down and kept the other planes skin unchecked. Also turned the sliders for ground detail and distance to minimum. But the problem is still the same..
I openned the Variance graph whilst in hangar, there I could see how the graph went from a straight line to a very unstable graph as soon as I picked the A6M2, 110C model or the Mosquito.. And the framerate dropped from the 30's to 4. And goes right back to normal as soon as I pick another ride..

And I am on a 10Mbit/10Mbit fibreoptic..  :headscratch:
