I have a problem with firefox....I think
« on: February 10, 2010, 08:08:11 PM »
The problem is this....when I shut down firefox and try to restart it...I get a pop up box stating that firefox is running and needs to be closed before it can open again....sometimes after 5-10-15 mins it works...most of the time I have to shut it down in the task manager....sometimes(haha yes another) there is 2 firefox.exe running. but no matter what 1 will have things running at 90-100%...

This started about 1 week ago....I have been trying to think but can't actually remember if this was when I updated firefox...I can't remember as when it pops up I just install and lately there seems to have been a few updates..

Any thoughts at all..... My anti virus Nod 32 hasn't picked up on anything.

After updating to Firefox 3.6 (having xp professional) I have the same problems. But it only lasts for a few seconds and then I can restart Firefox again after this pop up you describe. Mostly it happens when I have to shut down Firefox after some website kind of freezes and wouldn´t allow me to close it. I think it has nothing to do with spy ware or virus, ´cause my computer is well protected.

Ditto. I even removed my add-ons to help eliminate the problem but it still hangs,
invisible after closing the program down. Only via Task manager can I kill it.

I found I could help stop it from hanging after the first couple of times it's run by
using Speedyfox but the problem always comes back.

I happens to me sometimes too.  It always seems to be related to when I am doing something involving a large Flash application.  It seems once the browser closes it takes quite a while to release memory and truly shutdown.
