VMF-251 Profiles
« on: February 21, 2010, 02:29:19 PM »
Been working on updating VMF-251's squadron site and got a little sidetracked with making something shiny for the squad. Here's VMF-251's current active roster. Bombs denote victories against surface targets (ground vehicles, aircraft destroyed on the ground, and whole ships) or recorded in ground vehicles. There's no process within the US military I'm aware of for denoting large victory totals on individual aircraft, so I had to invent my own. Up to 25 victories are indicated by Japanese flags. Over 25 victories the flags reset, with a numerical count to denote those victories (in intervals of 25) not identified by flags.

One of these days I'll get around to skinning them all.

Ummm, I'm sure there's something and I hate to be the one to look like a total plonker but, this has what to do with F.S.O?

Because it's our individual FSO stats.  :P

They look great Sax. Very nice work. :aok

I've been doing the same thing for years with squads I've been in.
We track our best FSO streak  in VF-17 your streak ends if you're killed or captured.
Then you start a new streak. So far I' haven't had to worry with anybody going over 25. Your best streak is displayed on your aircraft. We only keep track of shipping targets destroyed with bombs but those are displayed on the pilot's page not on his aircraft.
Here's some examples of some I've done for VF-17. Since VF-17 used F4U-1As on their first tour and F6F-3s and -5s on their second VF-17 pilots are given a choice of F4U-1A F6F-3 or F6F-5.

We've recently started two awards programs. The Kepford Cup named for VF-17's Top Ace Ira Kepford (16 victories). Any VF-17 pilot that achieves an FSO Streak of 16 or more victories receives the Kepford Cup with his name on it delivered to his home courtesy of the XO.

Kepford Cup

Another award program beginning on the next FSO is the VF-17 Top Gun Award. Like the Kepford Cup this will be delivered to the VF-17 pilot with the highest victory streak during a monthly FSO. The award can only be given to an individual in the squad once. The XO isn't rich.  ;)

Cool.

Good Job VMF-251 and VF-17. I might start something like that in the 412th <S>
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Dad go to http://www.cafepress.com

You can open an on-line shop for free. You upload images to your media basket then place them on Tee-shirts, hats, mugs, fresbies... Pretty much anything you want.
You can price the items how you see fit. All of the items in the VF-17 PX http://www.cafepress.com/johnvan52 are priced at cost there's no profit on them.

I just have the basic one I've had for about 8 years. Never needed the premium one.
