First off, the largest gun on a pt boat is a 40mm bofors.

You have to adjust how much lead you're giving your target (aim where it will be, not where its at. Just in case you don't know  ;)) based on how fast its going, and how steep its diving, or climbing. Always aim infront of the nose.

You can only hit something out to 1.5k MAX, even though the bullets will travel further than that.

When people strafe pt boats, they generally come in at pretty shallow angles (to give themselves the longest firing period possible?), wich makes aiming pretty strait forward. Concentrate on the planes that are attacking YOU. They are flying toward you, so you just have to point your guns at him, and cut loose.

I'm in no way an expert at AA gunning, but this has always worked for me.

I would refer you to the thread a few down Lead Gunsite Offline and do that.

Up from a CV offline and the Lead Computer Generated Gun Site will show you how much to lead.

You can also use it in the TA where it is enabled.

Possibly get someone to attack your PT boat so you can practice.
(you will have to hit Ctrl Tab to enable Friendly Lock in the TA and use TAB to select the player helping you if you are both on the same side)

I personally use machine guns to defend my PT boat while I try to hit ships in the Task Group with that nasty 40mm.

HTC tied them all in so now when you shoot mg's the 40mm goes off as well.

Lute, whats the convergance for the guns? D600 like the bombers?

And I find it kind of usefull when hunting PT's. I never attack ships with the PT's guns. always use rockets and torpedos.

.

It depends at what I'm firing.  If there are quasi intelligent pilots attacking me, (from different high angles) I'll use the MG/20 mm combo.  If the attacks are coming in flat and shallow, they are going to get a 40mm round shoved in the radiator. :)  Also, there's nothing better though than watching the 40mm strip all the guns off the CV or CA  :aok

Yea I agree, but at least you can still fire the 40 independent of the rest.  I've got to say I don't mind that the 37 was tied in, as I could never aim well with that annoying ammo belt anyway.

And shouldn't the 37mm have more ammo than the 40mm, not less ?

The 37mm is directly out of a P-39 so it has the same amount of ammo as a P-39.

Why do you think it should have more ammo than the 40mm that is fed with four round clips?

I imagine they could reload the 37mm's ammo tray.... Wonder if they ever did?

I doubt they would only carry 30 something round of 37mm ammo. They reloaded the tray probably. My reasoning for thinking the 37 would have more ammo is that 37mm rounds are smaller and lighter (if not by a lot), so you can carry more for the same weight and space.

Eric,

I take it you cant find the"gunsite" on the 37mm cannon.Well thats because there isnt a gunsite on it.

Now if you hop into a 50 cal position and put your cursor in the middle of the 50cal gunsite, then lock it in place with the H key,you can then move to the 37mm and use your cursor as an aimpoint.

This will only give you an aimpoint so you must still lead what ever your targeting.

  Hope this helps!

I have my trigger set as a two stager where a small pull fires only the gun you want to fire.  In case you need to unload everything on an attacker a full pull and the floating death star comes to life.  One trick that I use to preserve my 40mm when firing all guns is to keep the front quarter of the boat pointed at the attacker.  If the 40mm can't come to bear the shells won't fire.  Spend some time watching the trajectory of the 40mm and how it behaves.  I usually fire 1-2 shells to see where they are impacting, adjust and fire 1-2 more.  Walk it into the target just like mortar rounds or artillery shells.  It is a great task group destroyer!

I have my head position set so that about a 1/2" above the tip of the gun barrel is center screen. Really helps with aiming that thing, and it frees up your mouse without having to put it in the center of the screen every time you use it.
