P-51D "Maximum Airspeed"

I haven't tested this in the game yet, to see if the data on the webpage correlates to the game data, but on the P-51D page it says:

"Max Permitted Airspeed- 505 MPH"

Is this TAS or IAS?  What alt is this at?  And what is the source of that data?

I also find it interesting that according to this, the F4U (516) could outdive a P-51 (not that it isn't true... just that it is surprising, as late 1944/1945 P-51s along with the Spitfire had some of the highest mach numbers recorded for a prop aircraft).  Fwiw, the F4U-1D vs P-51D tests specifically note that the P-51D outdived the Corsair.

America's 100K states: "Maximum permissible dive speed for a P-51D was 505 mph IAS below 9000 feet and 300 mph IAS (539 mph TAS and Mach .81) at 35000 feet. If these diving limits were exceeded compressibility would be experienced."

The 516 mph looks like a conversion from 450 knots.

AHT, I recall, has a quote from a pilot saying the F4U dive speed limits were largely ignored.

I remember watching an episode of wings where a P51 pilot said he dove his P51 past the max airspeed.  He was diving so fast that is bent his entire wings upwards at a slight angle.  When he got back to base, they had to scrap his plane because it was unusable.
