The Germans had a fly-off and were going to scrap the 109 for it for crying out loud.  It beat the 190, 109, C202 and C205 in the Luftwaffe tests.  The 109 won out because it was easier to produce... 5,000 man hours per air frame versus 12,000....and Germany needed quantity at that time, so they put the orders on hold.

3 20's and 2 50's internal.   :airplane:
