When the 479th came over to AH during the Exodus, we winged up with Manx and his 4Wing squadron to do some base taking.  I was tasked to fly the drunks in, so I get the signal to take off and off I go roaring on the deck, full speed to the base we're trying to capture.  I'm flying so low that I have to pop up to avoid hitting sheep and I see the town in the distance, hit WEP and as I get to the town I zoom up to 800ft to let the drunks out.  Then Manx asks why I didn't bring drunks like asked and I told him I did and I was about to drop them.  That's when he told me I wasn't in a C-47 but still in my P-38L.

Another time I was shuttling the drunks to a base, I get over the town and let out the drunks.  Squadron mate asked why did I just drop supplies on the town we're trying to capture.  Now you guys know why I rarely fly drunk shuttle missions.

Fly a P-47N with full fuel and you won't need a drop tank or bomb to be too heavy.   :cry

The mistake I seem to make most often is not forgetting to drop the tank, but forgetting to re-select the cannons before entering a fight.  I, on numerous occaisions, find myself getting all kinds of hits without doing any real damage only to notice that my cannons aren't firing.  :cry

Roll over, line up, wait for it, squeese the pickle, and the guns fire.  Hurry, select the bombs Pickle the bombs off.  Pull into the verticle select the rockets since you didnt have time to get them off on the first pass, Fire the missles.  Hey thats an upping con, get on his 6 chase him all over the area, land hits, and then realse you forgot to select the secondary guns.  That is about my luck, select the secondary guns and then get taken out by an IL-6.
Takeoffs are optional, landings aren't

I have done that so many times that I have lost count. The plane I hate doing that the most in is the P40, but I have gotten kills in it that way too.

...where you take an ENY 30 ride to the skies, the 109G-6. You get into fights, you mix it up with Spit's & P-51. You get your kills, but it's not that easy. You end up more in tower that usual, but of course that's no surprise: You fly a mid-war plane in LW...but you still have fun.

And now, after your last sortie, you hit F3 on the runway to admire Fencer's great skin. And then you see it:

There's a dam 250kg bomb hanging below your lightweight fighter - and you must had been hauling it every sortie, all night!  :o

reminds of a few yrs ago i was dueling batfink. the fights were so lopsided he posted a thread about how bad i pwnt him and posted film. upon further review he was loaded up with 2 500lb'ers every fight. but knowing bat he probably thought theyd give him an edge in a stall fight.  :D
