i think its some sort of punctuation conversion. i see it in word documents alot.

just googled it. apparently its some sort of conversion of an apostrophe.

Yeah, whatever character map and/or typeface you are using isn't the same as the person that posted the message - it's most likely the other person's setup.  So, you're seeing the character that is mapped for that character code.  I see stuff like that all the time in the incident management system we use here at work, when our helpdesk does a copy and paste from a client's email.

Alt code

â = 131 French alt code
€ = 0128 Euro alt code

you're hitting the alt key with number lock key on and using #pad causing alt code symbols to appear   :D

Hit the num lock key will fix your problem  :aok http://www.alt-codes.net/how_to_use_alt_codes/

My guess is you're using keypad for views? ☺
