Black death since new version
« on: March 12, 2010, 06:32:23 PM »
well last night i got the update for the game and it install fine. i tried to get online and it took 3 login attempts to finally get through. it kept telling me i was getting host connection lost...

so i finally get on and see that the WW1 arenas are here so i go in. i load my plane and start flying towards the battle. almost as soon as i engaged my screen went black. It went black like my monitor went to sleep. I say that because the monitor power button went orange like it does in sleep mode or in off. i tried to get to the task panel, but no matter what i did it stayed black. so i powered down the computer and restarted as i thought maybe the graphics crad crapped itself, though its not even 2 months old yet. it started normally and had picture so knew the graphics card was fine. i tried 2 more time but still had no success.

so i tried today and still was a no go. so i decided i was gonna just uninstall the game and reinstall it which i did. i just went back in and had it in the lobby of the arena and it did it again.

now to actually describe the problem. it lets me in the game and loads normally but after about 5min in the game it does this. i tested more today seeing if it was just the one WW1 arenas or the camel but it did it for all of them and all four aircraft. I tried to go into the normal MA arenas and they too did it. this is the only game that does it and it was fine up until the new patch.

scenario is tomarrow which im a guide leader in and its looking now like i wont be able to play

my card is a nvidia geforce 210 by the way.

Three things:

1) Post the top 1/3 of your DxDiag
2) Have you updated your Video Drivers recently?
3) What settings do you use?

Actually a fourth thing:

Did you re-allow AH through the Firewall?  Sometimes it can re-block it (although it never has done it to me).

I log yesterday for the first time in a week.  the auto downloader downloaded both updates but somehow my game got corrupted.  I saved my films, settings, sights, skins ,sounds folders d/l the game again moved folders back and was good to go.

You should not be running that video card with the high resolution textures, nor "Detailed Terain" enabled.  It has regular DDR2 RAM with a 64 bit interface.  It is just to slow to handle the above options.

What game resolution are you running?  It should not be higher than 1280x1024.

Try removing the "video8.cfg" file to have the game video settings reset back to defaults.

sorry, im not actually using the hi-res textures, just the in game detailed terrain. I was thinking that was what it was called in game.

the card is not the problem because its worked fine for the last 3 months with AH. It wasnt until this new verson that ive had any troubles. in the 3 years ive been playing, this had never happened before. I previously had some blue screens of death but never black like this. i can also run FSX with no problems with it which is a heck of a lot more demanding on graphics than AH is.

also without detailed terrain enabled, the game looks like crap. second i get worse frames with it off than when its on and not just a few. im talking a difference of being in the 30-40fps with it off and at a constant 60 when its on.

game resolution is the same as my monitor resolution.

will try removing that file though

ok problem solved. i had this happen on another game which it hadnt before... so i knew then it wasnt just AH. restarted comp and looked inside the case and here the fan on my graphics card wasnt spinning and the card was hot. so it was turning off the card because it was probably over heating...

thanks for help though

Good to see you figured out the issue.

I really hope you're not running the game with your paging file being this big: Page File: 568MB used

You can avoid a lot of potential problems by trimming that down...with a fresh boot I can get mine down to 215MB and I still experience some issues once in a while.
