Steel Panthers
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:59:42 PM »
So there I was diggin' through a box of old books and other items from long ago and guess what I found... 2 CD's of the old turn based Steel Panthers game.

The thing is, I have no idea how to play this on my current PC, I have Win XP.  Can anyone help?  Can I even fire up this old dinosaur on a new PC?  The CD's says "PC-DOS" on them.

you could try it and see if it works

if not then download dosbox and run it from there. I have an old dos game "Arsenal" that I have to run from dosbox. (one of my fav games BTW)

I have steel panthers 1 and 2 here too on cd :)

I doubt you will have any luck getting those to run on a current PC, try these instead:

Steel Panthers World at War: http://www.spwaw.com/

Steel Panthers World War 2:  http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Camo_Workshop/WW2/WW2_page.html

Both are free to download.

Download the game.

Put the game icon on the desktop and right click it.

Select Properties.

Select the Compatability tab.

Set the options to run the game under the OS and monitor settings it would normally have.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help.  I also found "Age of Rifle" as well.  Im going to try and help the 24th win at Isandlwana.  I remember 13 or so years ago trying time and time again but to no avail... lets see if I can do so now.   :D

The World at War Steel panthers was more polished, but the Camo workshop version had bet IA if you can call it that... hehe

You can pick up cheap version of the combat missions games online now as well. I think 5 bucks each but it may be 15.

Got out my old Steel Panthers disk and DL'd that dosbox program you guys were talkin' about. Much to my surprise I got it to work and and was playing the old original Steel Panthers!! I've played the World at War version for years now but always preferred the original and wondered if there was some way to do it that was easy enough for me to figure out.

Just one lil' thing though. Is there any way to make dosbox full screen or at least a bit bigger? My eyes are bad enough as is. :)

I've never had this option function the way it was intended.
