No 56 Squadron, the Phoenix squadron is forming!
I've decided to strike out on my own and try to form one of my favorite units of both World Wars. With the coming of the WW1 arena, it is a perfect time to get the unit up and running.
No 56 was the first unit to take the SE5 and SE5a to France in WW1 as well as the top scoring squadron. Disbanded after the war they were reformed on several occasions in the 20's and in the late 30's they became a Hurricane squadron that fought through the Battle of Britain. No 56 again was the first to take out a new model when they were the first squadron to receive the Hawker Typhoon. They did a brief stint with the Spitfire mk9 before being re-equipped again with Tempests. They were in part of the first Tempest wing to go into action in 1944.
The Virtual No 56 started life as a Dawn of Aces squadron several years ago. We fly on Bish in the main arenas as well as the mid and early war.
