Anyone mastered the P51B?

Our B model has a Packard Merlin just like the D but a different model and it peforms better at higher alts than the D. (not sure on the model numbers but HTC did comment on it indicating it was a hi-alt version).

I've flown both and i havent noticed much difference in them, except the B feels slightly more nimble. The B should be faster on the deck and faster above 20K than the D, it should reap the benefits of being slightly lighter, lower wing-loading, slightly better climb etc.

The Aceleration in both still suck ass, and the turning ability is marginal at best, so turn fighting is bad news in either model.

"also, noted that after rockets are expended, its a PIG for turning!"

I have no stick time in either of the two, but the rockets differ between them. The B-model have rocket tubes that will remain on the wing after the rocket is launched and cause drag, while the D's rockets are launched from rails that I am not sure are modelled to give any drag.

Yep, Snefens, thats why its a pig, those tubes remain.  I never load it with rockets in the B model...

I nearly always load the M8's. Never noticed a difference other then a sligtly lower top speed. 51B with 500lbs and M8's is becoming one of my favorite jabos.

I knocked down a B17 and a Ju88 with the B but it took three passes for the 17 and four for the 88.  I mean I plastered the 88 good on the first pass and it did not even smoke. It also seems very vulnerable to radiator hits but it is nice to fly around.  I also survived two tempest attacks in one.
