'a man's gotta know his limitations'
Words to live by .. I raced Motocross for 2 years ..125cc class .. couple years later I got my first 'street bike'
.. I never could see the value of gettin a small displacement bike for street use
.. but then I had already run my 125 balls out for years.
First street bike was a 76(I think? ..somethin in there, green with gold stripes) 900cc Kawasaki Z .. I rode it a month
then geared it down, double chained it (kept stretchin the single chain), header, cams, and carb upgrade.
It was a blast to ride ..a real rocket to 120 or so. Nimble ..easy to manuever at any speed.
Spoiled me rotten.
Couple years later I got a '78 gold wing for 'cruisin' to work an back, black w/lotsa chrome, also 900cc.
Wife wanted her own so I got her an 1100cc Shadow (Harley look-alike) .. we went around to various dealers and she sat on this an that and the Shadow was what she liked the best.. then I looked thru the paper and got her a used one with low miles (like less than a hundred, you can find almost anything that someone bought and didn't much care for

First time she laid the Shadow down, she decided she'd rather ride on the back mk thx.
I thank God for the motocross experience/reflexes I developed.
Saved my life twice, never laid any bike down on the pavement.
(did every crash known to man on my dirt bike, first

I put 180 *thousand* miles split 'tween the Shadow and the Wing over the years I rode 'em.
Sold 'em both for more than I paid for them when I had to get rid of 'em

Point is .. get what you like .. ride it first to see how you 'fit'
..some that look 'cool' are just plain not a good idea

ie: the 2-stroke Kawasaki 750 ..ya .. I test drove one ..scariest bike I have ever been on, wheelies at half throttle and downright squirrely trying to pass a car on a two lane .. I passed .. got the 900 Z instead .. much more driveable

I could grab all the throttle she had in first gear ..the front wheel would come up a couple inches, and she would just plain bend yer teeth back accelerating ..120 in top gear came *fast* after I geared it down .. I mean .. I had no ambition to run up into 6th gear to 160+ mph with the stock gearing without a wind screen at the very least
