Nakajima Ki-27
« on: April 03, 2010, 07:04:46 PM »
The Ki-27 was the primary Japanese Army Air Force fighter until 1940. It saw service in the CBI (China-Burma-India) theater as an exported aircraft. It was fairly stable, though extremely under protected, and had a fantastic rate of turn. Although, it was stuck with just two 7.7mm guns, and those don't really pack a punch at all (well, .303s didn't do much either). It can carry a 100kg bomb. It's a classic, pre-war Jap fighter. And it supposedly shot down a P-38 and damaged a P-51 during Thai service.

I'd use it as a light dive bomber, but I don't know exactly how well it'd perform at that. I like its service ceiling.

Yes the Nate would be a great addition.

I'd like to see it's Navy cousin the A5M Claude added as well.

Along with numerous other Japanese Russian and Italian aircraft.  :aok

I just found out it could mount a single 12.7mm gun on the later models. That way we wouldn't have to be stuck with 7.7mms.

I would like to see the Ki-27, along with a bunch of 1939 planes, like the A5m, De 520, Bf-109B, Fokker XXI, etc.

But, in reality, these planes would end up MA hangar queens.  As cool as the older, pioneering birds are, faster, late war planes will always dominate the arenas.

The Ki-43 is a much higher priority than the Ki-27 is.
