Pyro, some ship armor/ballistics for you
« on: October 18, 2000, 12:43:00 AM »
 http://www.combinedfleet.com/gunarmor.htm

There's an extensive article there on the Bismark's guns vs various ships. Just at the bottom of that link above, are a set of programs. They'll do ballistic calculations for armor penetration. I've played with it  a bit, but not extensively.

You also might want to hit CurveExpert and Versaverter. Both are great programs. CurveExpert will do about any type of curve, while Versaverter can convert nearly anything.

Those articles are done by Nathan Okun. I won't be quite wrong if I say that he is the most expert man in the world today regarding questions of gun versus armor interaction. I know he was done some very accurate and user friendly DOS programs, the most important of them called "facehard" that, with input of the shell qualities, Armor scheme and quality, the speed and angle of impact, etc, will do a calculation of how ill the shell be interacting with the armor, if the shell will be decapped, stopped, or will penetrate the armor.

I will look where to download it and will post a link, it is a little program for free AFAIK. I myself did some "experiments"   and the program is a beauty.

Thanks RAM. I knew the guy had a web site, I just didn't know where.

You catch the BIG words on the index? I sure hope Pyro does. Hint: "Written permission to use this material for commercial purposes MUST be granted...." or something alone those lines

If you ask me if I saw them, yes I did.

I said the thing about Facehard program not for Pyro but for people interested in the matter that also wants to do "experiments" (like how would do a 32' Schwere Dora hit on the Iowa affect that ship ) .

God save us if Pyro has to model detailed battleships with oblique hit calculations, plunging fire calculations, etc and so! the sim would run at 3 FPS each time a BB was hit!!!

Not to talk about the "MY IOWA IS UNDERMODELLED!!!" Cries from allied whiners

(hew hew hew)
