Civil Service Exam
« on: April 12, 2010, 08:34:07 AM »
I have to take one of these things next week for a maintenance position for the city. How hard are they and what do i need to study? I'm nervous as hell about having to take this test. I've been out of school for 25/26 years so this test has got me freaked out.  :lol

It's been years since I took my last one but I remember it being more common sense than anything.  You spend enough time on these boards so I'm sure your grammar is perfect.  Basic math and spacial concepts - like if gear A turn clockwise, which way does gear B turn.  and no, D. gear? we don't need no stinking gear.  is not and acceptable answer.

Good luck.  Being nervous only makes it worse.

I'm trying to remember what level those municipal exams at...last one I took seemed to be at the 6th grade level on some parts and 8th grade on other parts...you should have a general knowledge section with math, spelling, english and a specialization section. Not really difficult, just take your time and read the entire question. Vets get extra points too.

Find out if can take a calculator.

I used one for a test i had to take a few years back. Helped me out on the fraction part.
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Have you ever seen some of the folks that work for the city as a maintenance person?    :noid

If you can figure out this game, and how to post on the BBS, you should have no problem

You'll be fine.

My experience with Civil Service Exams- answer what you think they want to hear, not what you think is the correct answer. Thats how I got my job (scored a 90 on mine  :lol )
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Take it easy, leave the apprehension at home. Go in and take your time with the test and above all, RTDQ! Read the darn question, all of the question before answering. Same for the instructions.   :old:
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
