This has probably been beat to death, but the smoke & possibly fire need an option in preferences to turn down the effects. That is the only thing which slows my frame rate much anymore. P.S. One shouldn't be able to fit in the flames in a GV to obscure your icon without any damage. I do it all the time, but it's just wrong.

You've also got the more valid reasons to have it though. #1 the current smoke setup is the same smoke used for smoke canisters on tanks, purposefully to obscure view. You've also got the smoke from burning hangars/CVs that can sometimes be useful to obscure the view of an attacking pilot while you are trying to take off (i.e. hide in the smoke while slow and low as an evasive maneuver).

Wouldn't be fair for one person to be able to see you through the smoke and another person not to.

did they ever fix that bug where some people can see through smoke? used to be that laying a smoke screen wouldnt be effective against some players.
