Game crashes after sign-in
« on: April 19, 2010, 05:41:43 PM »
Ever since today, after I enter my username/password and hit enter, the game processes for a second and then totally crashes.  I get a popup that says "aceshigh.exe" has stopped working.  I have to run the task manager to unfreeze my comp.  Patches are up-to-date.

Here's the DxDIAG info: lemme know if you need more.

EDIT: The offline mode works perfectly; only online play crashes upon sign-in

Sounds like a firewall is preventing the game from connecting to the Internet.

I turned off my windows firewall + symantec firewall.  Game still crashes after signing-in to online play.

The game had worked for previous 2 months prior to yesterday, and I have made 0 settings changes from when the game was working until now.

The only thing of note that I remember is that, on the day the game stopped working, my password + account info was no longer saved.  I forgot my password, so I had a new one sent to me.  Only after this did the game start crashing.

I hope this gets resolved; i'd hate to be paying for something I can't play.

Try downloading and installing the current release over the top of the one installed.

Also, does your computer have Norton installed on it?  Actually, Norton or McAfee, possibly other A/V software, can corrupt the game installation.  If it is corruption, try renaming the "settings" folder in the game installation directory and see if that gets it working.

Yes, I do have Norton; I meant to say Norton when I typed Symantec.  Every firewall I owned was turned off during my last try to restart the game.

I'm downloading and re-installing the game now.  Will report back with results.

I hate to tell you this, but Norton can get into a state where you cannot disable it.  The only remedy, at that tiem, is to remove the application from the computer.
