anyone looking to get the new track IR?
« on: April 23, 2010, 11:07:13 AM »
whats up guys... i have a spare computer for my roomate, hes kinda broke at the moment, and ive been teaching him to play ah2, and hes loving it. but blames all his deaths on lack of visual aid (lack of track IR)

if you upgrade yours ill buy the old one at 50% of the cost of the upgrade, $75... so essentially you upgrade for $75, since the product is $150.

sound good?

He might be in for a serious disappointment, when he finds out that blaming his cartoon deaths on a missing TrackIr was plain wrong

The AH hat view system is great, getting a TIR is not giving you any serious advantage, nor does it make you a better virtual pilot.
Is fantastic for better immersion, and has some minor benefits under certain conditions... but that's all.

adjusting your FOV in the video setup helps greatly

I'd go so far as to say that initially using the TIR would actually hurt him rather than help.  I used hat views all the way through AW, for years, and they were great, when I came here about a  year and a half ago, I used hat views to great effect, and had no problems.  When I switched to the TIR after about 6 or 8 months in, I really went to hell in my SA (which is bad to begin with) and my gunnery for about two months or so before I started seeing things get back to normal.  It's a big adjustment to make at first, and since you can move your head off to the side of your sight, it really messes you up for a while until you readjust.

IMO he'd be a lot better off worrying more about his ACM than he would about TIR.  And, there are some planes that the TIR actually hurts your views a tiny bit compared to the hat views.

I found with Aces High 2, I prefere using a Hat switch over track IR, I use Track IR for other games tho.

i used hats and flew great for about a year in ah2, then switched to the TIR, i sucked for about a month and then once i got my profile tweaked and got used to it my skills began rapidly improving.

i'll never go back to hat. plus the hat has some usable buttons that free up, i use them all for trim now :)

TrackIR is great for FSX, Driving games and FPS like ARMA2 and WW2OL. Hat is better for AH.

trakir works better for people that are already good at their SA.  if you get killed a lot from out of nowhere it wont help you that much and it probably will frustrate the heck out of him more.  tell him that he constantly has to look around even when he's chasing somebody else.
