I wish for different settings folder for film viewer
« on: April 28, 2010, 03:05:54 PM »
Currently the AH film viewer is tied to the game files. It reads them to display your gunsight, for example. One thing it does not read are head positions, unfortunately. You can set them yourself inside the film viewer but that's just annoying.

I wish we had a separate folder for gunsights and head positions that the film viewer would read head positions, gunsights, etc.

That way if somebody wanted to get creative they could compare head positions from different players (swap those files in and out of the film viewer without ruining your in-game files!) using the same film and compare, as well as swapping out gunsights to fit the mood of your film.

I would just really love a directory I can plop all my head position files into so that when I'm in a film viewer it replicates what I actually see in-game, instead of the annoying defaults!

That would be handy, because I use TrackIR.  I'd sure like to be able to have my head positions saved in the film viewer like that.  It would make watching all films much less of a hassle.  Good idea!

Could you just install AH twice into 2 different directories to get that function now? Not saying it's a bad wish, just wondering.

In short: no.

It wouldn't matter how many times you installed AH right now because 1) the film viewer doesn't use head positions from AH, and 2) if it WERE tied to the head positions in AH, I'd like them to be separated into their own directories.

So, IF they were tied in now, you could get away with that. They're not. I requested point #2 because it can't be done without point #1, essentially making it a double whammy wish :)

I hope we'll see a film viewer update that adds functions like moving controls, control surfaces, and the pilot head, as well as what you're asking Krusty.

Madda I don't see how they can record TrackIR views unless they can get that information from the TrackIR software. That would be very helpful.

Yeah that would be optimal, but I don't really need that.  I just want to be able to save head positions in the film viewer.  Kind of like the head positions get saved in the game when you set them up.  That way when I watch a film, I can look around using the keypad without having to reposition my head in the film constantly.  It would be nice.
