They did it again!
« on: May 03, 2010, 12:42:36 AM »
Once again, the show "America: story of us" had left out a even more important war, War of 1812.  Why is this so important?  For good reasons.
1) it was the first war that American has fought since we got our independent from the Brits.
2) It was the first major war (and the only war to this date)  that we fought and won with out any help from other countries.
3) It was the first time that we where invaded by a country.
4) It was the first and only time that our capital was invaded and held by another country.
5) It was the start (and many other wars follow) that we helped out France by declaring war on britan.  This was to help eased the tension in Europe with France trying to control it all.

What significant foreign help did we receive during the Civil War?

It seems like I remember seeing or hearing something about England aiding the Confederacy in some way or another.  I cant remember how though.  :headscratch:

They support the Confederate movement but never fought in it, they did not want to go to war with U.S.  However, they did helped the confederate with some areas like bulid two war ships, weapons and ammo.  Same way as U.S. help British in WWII.  Do note that there where a few British officer that stood on the side line for the Confederate as a observer.

As I stated in an earlier post, The show was done by a South African film company, for the History Channel. I don't know who picks out the "significant" history, but the are leaving events such as that out. For what reason? I wish I knew myself. If they are under budget/time constraints, IMO it would be better that they waited till they had more time/ money to do a more thorough, correct program.

Actually it was a draw, though it could be said the America lost as its conquest of Canada failed.

It was a good thing that there was a war going on in Europe that tied up tens of thousands of British troops and hundreds of British ships. You can thank Bonaparte and France.

It was also the first time America invaded another country.

Yea, we did lost in Canada, but i think the objectives in Canada was not the main focus but to keep them Canadians up there before they come down to us.  Come to think of it, It was the only time that we fought against Canada, now we just fight them on the ice.

For the brits, they would never invade us if we did not declare war on them.  Other wise the war of 1812 would never happen.  As far as us invading, i assuming you are talking about us invading Canada?  That event is often over Shadow  Some do not thing U.S. invading was not a significant important to the war.
