Quite the contrary Vudak...trying to show them that they aren't.
Of course I'm not talking about you personally, since I have no idea how you raise your kids, or what your state's laws are... But that's not what I see around here.
Limiting employment options because there is a chance of injury is trying to keep them immortal, not show them they aren't. It seems like it's only a matter of time before someone pinches their finger in a cash register, and gets those jobs banned for young kids too.
Young drivers should be allowed to drive at night. It's not like all the deer, drunks, bad drivers and weather patterns of the world miraculously appear after 10 p.m. Further, curfew does not = experience in handling these situations.
Kids that use performance-
degrading drugs should be allowed and encouraged to participate in school sports. Not turned away from healthy, positive entertainment. Kids aren't apples. "Good" can influence too... That's not a quality reserved for "bad."
Every time a kid gets hurt or badly influenced in some odd circumstance, there are parents, pundits, and politicians trying to prevent the circumstance from ever happening again. It's almost a policy of isolation from the outside world. It doesn't work IMO.
