Settings for extreme gamer soundcard

I have a Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

 CAN SOMEONE POST THEIR SETTINGS,THANKS..i HAVE 5.1 HEADPHONES

Technically headphones are only ever 2.0 

But some of them are pretty clever at simulating surround sound. 

Here's the thing, you don't really need any custom settings for sound cards. It has a sound, it plays the sound. If you want to tweak the equalizer on that sound in your card's control panel go for it, but IMO beyond a certain minimum threshold a-soundcard-is-a-soundcard.

At least, as far as playing games goes.

I've got a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer soundcard.  I never set anything.  I only installed the drivers and skipped installing all the Creative bloatware.  Mine works and sounds great powering my Klipsh 2.1 speakers.

That would be incorrect.  There ARE in fact TRUE 5.1 surround sound headphones in existence.. HERE IS ONE EXAMPLE

I actually own those exact headphones (except the USB version) and I can attest to the 5.1 on them... absolutely incredible!

The first thing I would do with that card is toss it in the ocean and buy a HT Omega... having said that...

AH does an excellent job of surround so all you really need is a good set of headphones. I think 5.1 or 7.1 or anything in headphones is like driving your car before and after working hard to wash it. It will always SEEM to drive better afterwards but its the same old car. If you want 5.1 or 7.1 or whatever buy some speakers. When AH finally supports dual sources you will want speakers for effects and headphones for vox so why not prepare for it now?

However, the nitpicker in me has to point out those are 6.2!!! 3 speakers and a sub in each ear cup!

Well,what happens sometimes is that sounds of planes taking off all of a sudden go down a few decibels for no reason and get quiet..Was just wondering if I had some setting wrong..

What I believe is happening is that you have your sound card set at 5.1 (which it shouldn't be).  Your card has multiple jacks and since I think you have it set at 5.1, it sounds like the sound card is sending certain jacks which your headphones aren't plugged into.

Example:

There is a noise at your 7 o'clock when you're in the plane.  Your headphones are plugged physically into one jack.  The card is trying to send the sound signal to the rear audio jack which isn't hooked up to anything because you don't physically have any rear speakers.  Thus, you're hearing silence.

Falcon which version of Windows are you using?

EDIT: NVM let me just tell you... If you are using Vista (any flavor) or W7 (any flavor) you should probably return this card immediately and get an HT Omega Striker 7.1... you will be MUCH happier.

I have the same headphones and you have to set the speaker configuration to 5.1 in Windows or if you use the Creative configuration software, put it in Game mode and set the speaker configuration to 5.1 and check the Sync with speaker configuration in Windows.  If you have the speakers set to 7.1 and using the headphones connected to the Xi-fi through the passovers, you're going to lose two channels and you'll hear a cut out in sound.
