P-51B Drop Tank Bug
« on: April 24, 2010, 02:35:05 PM »
The P-51B currently does not drain both drop tanks evenly using "auto" mode.

I was wondering this last night for the P-51D and Tempest both. The plane didnt seem to be 'side-heavy' but one tank was dry while the opposite tank was reading still full.

At least with the P-38s, it's always drained one DT first before it starts using the other one with auto-fuel enabled.

Not sure how it is designed to work in the game but the pilots operating manual suggests that operationally it was switched every 15 minutes. So I guess we will have to switch it manually every 7 minutes?

Since you're all for realism, why not?

As things are right now it does not appear to make a difference how you approach it.

Same with P47M with two wing fuel tanks... haven't checked the other models yet. I was wondering why after a while the plane had a tendency to roll left like the 2nd drop tank (right wing) was off already. And its a bit annoying when you want to jettison the said R/H dry tank but get stuck with jettisoning the one full of fuel first, thus reducing your flight time considerably (you can still keep both tanks if you want until the left side is dry).

Although any well aware pilot would check his fuel tank selection prior, during, and after the flight for realism and SA, the auto fuel mode should still dry both wing tanks at the same rate for CG issues.

EDIT: tested out D-25, D-40, and N models, same thing with either 2 or 3 DTs.

This is true on the 51D as well. What seems wonky is you can't drop the one you've used most of the fuel out of. It will retain whichever one you have used the most fuel out of when you drop.

Seems like if we have to manually switch, we should be able to pick which one it is.
