262 issues/ sound
« on: May 15, 2010, 08:10:34 PM »
Upped a 262, got in the air, Frame rate dropped to 1-2 FPS.

Climbed out trying to find a process hogging resource in the background.... was only running 18 processes to start.  Not there, and CPU was only running at 37%, rock steady.

Turned off engines.... Frame rate went up to normal 45-50 FPS.  Turned on engines, FR went to 1-2 FPS, after they spooled up.  Repeated, same outcomes.

I tried duplicating this on my home computer and could not.

Are you using custom sounds?  Try removing them.  If not, it might be helpful to see a DXDIAG output.

After some testing tonight, found that it is an issue with soundblaster, and it is only with the sounds with 262.  When I turned the 3D sound off on the Creative console, my framerates while flying the 262 have gone back to normal.  The 262 was the only ride in the set that did this.

Yes, forcing any type of decoding/filtering on sounds to be done by the sound card could have a negative impact on the game.  The game natively does 3D sounds.
