Has anybody used or set up an "ThrustMaster Top Gun Afterburner" HOTAS unit ??  I have an oportunity to get one, and am reasonably impressed with it's reviews.  Supposedly, it is designed to be a "midrange-user flight controller", which is about where I place myself, in the flight sim world.  :D
thanks in advance for any tips or knowledge shared.

Before the CH crowd arrives, I will tell you that I have had very good experience with all of my TM stuff

1. F16-FLCS
2. F16-TQS
3. Formula T2 Driving Peddals

Never have had a problem with any of them. As soon as the new HOTAS Cougar is out, I will be buying that, without a doubt.

I messed with a display of the Afterburner. Although I was not very impressed with the spring feel of the unit, I did think it was an alright stick.

How many sticks do you think you would buy over the next 6 years?

I bought my gear about 6 years ago. It all still works just fine. Total cost, about $300.00

Divided by 6 years, thats $50.00 / year. I could probably get another couple years out of it if I had to.

Enter the Cougar. I'll be paying the $250.00 for it, and prolly another $50 to $100 for the peddals, when they come out.

So about $350.00 max. I have no doubt this will last another 6 or more years. Will be money well spent.

Wing up, Get kills, Be happy!

Jaekart,  I got my Thrustmaster Afterburner about a month ago at Fry's in Austin.  Works great.  The button placement takes a little getting use to after using my FSC stick.  I also still need to figure out how to use the other 4 buttons on the throttle control, seems stick mapping in ah doesnt recongize them.  Definitly worth the $59 I payed for it.  I agree with Midnight thou, I was real leary of the feel of the joystick in the store,  but once I got it home and set it up, and found the tension control on the bottom,  it was much better.

Many thanks for the replies on the Afterburner.    :)  While I would naturally prefer to get the best equipment on the market, the budget just does not stretch far enough to do so.  "MidKnight- so far I have used 3 sticks in 5 years of flight simming.  I have never had an opportunity to try out a HOTAS unit, so this is virgin territory for Me.  My worst stick to date was an MSFF2, that I returned 2 days after I bought it.  Very possibly it was My own problems that prevented me from getting it set-up, but it would not regognise any flight sim I tried it with, to include Jane's WWII Fighters, MS Combat Flight Sim, or Wing Commander- Prophecy.
Airscrew, I will be very interested in whether you get the buttons on the Throttle to function in AH, as it was my intent to set them up for the trim, gear, flaps etc. functions.
Again, My thnaks for a swift reply.   :p
