Just thought I'd share, I went out to the local airport to see the B-17G
Aluminum Overcast yesterday. Got to watch it take off and land once while I was there. It was neat.
My grandmothers brother was killed in a ball turret from a friendly collision in a B-17 over Austria in '44 so it was neat to see and peek in that turret up close, pretty cramped space, must have been terrifying to be stuck in there while the plane falls to earth. Then to watch that beast take off, I can only imagine wait it would have been like in England during the war watching dozens and dozens of them lift off at once.
My favorite part was when he pivoted 90° to taxi out, and blew the hats off of half the people in the crowd.
