I absolutely can NOT believe that NO ONE is playing The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan, or even Band of Brothers today. Even History Channel is running a marathon of that waste of airtime Ice Road Truckers instead of any sort of commemorative programming.

This is absolutely absurd.

Agreed - just looking myself - hard to believe isn't it....

TV programming- crap that the average droll/ mindless American will watch
What we want- what will show the blood, tears, sweat and commemorate the occassion(s) that changed history and brought about the end to what was the worst war in the history of mankind.

But hey, what are a few thousand patriots to millions of idiots who would rather watch people drive over ice?

You got me.

I know I'll make up for that. Today I'm watching either Saving Private Ryan or "Day of Days" form Band of Brothers.

:salute to all those who fought and died for the world's freedom on that day.

They put a show on today, that no one even watches. Like they're trying to be disrespectful. :furious

It seems to me there's less and less interest in and respect for the men who fought in WWII. The media has certainly shown less of it, and I've seen some NASTY comments posted on WWII-related videos on YouTube.

go to www.History.com and scroll down to 'FAQ / contact us'

and leave your comment. I just did:

"I thought it interesting that on June 6, 66 years to the day that 3 million men took part in the Normandy landings, you chose to show a marathon of one more garbage fake-reality series that nobody watches that has absolutely nothing to do with history in any way. Way to spit in the eye of the few remaining vets who survived that conflict that saved the world and freedom as we know it, and those of us who care about remembering them. I suppose a 'Pawn Stars' [vomit] marathon is already on the schedule for June 6 of 2011? Way to go, History Channel! At least the people in charge of your website got it right today. "

They will understand a little better if they're bombarded with the feelings of the people they're trying to get to tune in......

I actually did that before I even posted in this thread about it. ;)

Actually, they usually play "The Longest Day" and "Band of Brothers" on Memorial Day weekend.

They did play "Band of Brothers" last weekend.

They did NOT play "The Longest Day" last weekend. I had hoped they were finally holding it for the correct day, June 6. But they were not. I looked at IMDB and it was not scheduled to play any time soon.

They did play some really good movies last weekend. But not playing "The Longest Day" last weekend or this one is sad. Even though there were a few D-Day shows on today.

I have my DVD ready. There's nothing worth watching tonight anyway.

I posted "John has a long mustache" on June 6 last year, in one of the forums. Something we've been doing since way back in AW. I think maybe 1% of the readers figured it out. There was a time that my post would have been followed by a bunch of posts, with each message for the resistance, until every message was posted.

Actually, for a long time they DID always play The Longest Day SOMEWHERE on June 6, especially if it was on a weekend. If not on the networks, (I remember watching it on KPLR TV-11 here in St. Louis with my dad growing up. It was almost a yearly thing) then it was on something like A&E or AMC. As I said, there seems to be an increasing disinterest in WWII history. The Pearl Harbor anniversary used to be a BIG deal 10 or so years ago, but in recent years it's gotten little more than a cursory note by the networks. I remember CNN was running programming about the attack ALL DAY c.2002, including their little scrolling news box flashing up notes on events in real-time as they historically occurred.
