Is this game worth $25? I hear it's buggy I've been thinking about buying it.

EDIT: I've been thinking about RoF too. Opinons anyone?

SH4-5 you need fairly good comps.

lol how many of you guys do manual targeting?

I do. I'm on 100% realism. It's freakin' hard... but what bugs me is the lack of currents. Infiltrating harbors is entirely too easy.

I got enough action on my first mission of my first career to get me sunk. That first mission was a photo recon mission.

I suggest you go to the sub sim forums, join the forums, do some reading, and download some of the mods, like TMO, RSRD, and RFB. I can tell you that just adding TMO made SH4 incredible. I wish I had time to play more.

I'm on the forums there, but the mods deal just hasn't made sense. I've downloaded those three but just don't know how to put them ingame. I think I activated them, lol, but I just can't tell.

Yea I've got a good comp that shouldn't be my problem unless it's driver or Win7 related.

Look for Jonesoft Generic mod enabler. Free download and makes enabling and disabling mods a breeze.

If you'll look around, you'll see there is a generic mod enabler, and there is a tutorial on how to install and uninstall mods. The generic mod enabler makes it really easy.

I did since day one, and it's no rocket science. Basic trigonometry stuff, don't be intimidated by it, trully brings the fun in that game. Do a little quick reference matrix of target speed/relative angle and you'll ditch it after a couple of days, it'll be ingraved in ur brain.

I use manual targeting but I'm often making mistakes and miss. My best method is to get reallly really close, launch a salvo then sink to the bottom and wait for the escorts to lose me.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I am opposite of most opinion on SH5. I thought it was infinitely better than SH4 even with trigger maru. Obviously die hard fans will still prefer SH3 with the great mods but for a vanilla release SH5 was very fun to play. The DRM did not cause any trouble, I was lucky there. I'm speaking in the past tense because I have not played it for months now. One of those games that I play for 3 hours straight then don't get a chance to play again for ages. Same as RoF. Still, if you have a little spare cash either one of them is well worth owning in my view.

As a trusted Squadmate I may try SH5.The modders haven't had time enough to get SH5 up to snuff, but they did get a patch out,and they are working on a 2nd one,Ubisoft has always got on a released sim quickly to get it right, and the modders are great!I'm playing SH4,Trigger Maru Overhauled, and I must admit it takes away from my AH flying time!SH3 was simply wonderful, and I played it a lot.The price has came down, and maybe I'll give it a spin. Thanks for the info Bat.I still play Panzer General 3d,Eastern Front and it's ten years old!

Manual targeting at least before the latest patch (I haven't played with the latest patch, I've been sort of busy to play SH5) was at best guesstimating. Especially if added with upgrades that increase the speed of torpedo. With alot of the ships the triangulation seems to be incorrect and the speed upgrade of torps isn't taken into count at all. To get the correct range with some ships you have to aim below the top of the smoke stacks and with some ships you get it from top of the mast. You pretty much have to know each ship to know where is the correct spot to get the range right.

I just read some blogs from Subsim, and this baby sounds like a loser!Worst part is that Ubisoft isn't communicating with the players about 2nd patch or any patch.Sad thing that companies push unfinished games out the door, and use us for Beta testers!I got my SH4 modded up very nicely, and it's fun for me.Ubisoft used to be real good about getting things right per IL II.I will keep a suspicious eye on them from now on.
