Mouse not detected by Win95
« on: December 06, 2000, 02:09:00 PM »
My son's computer will not recognize his mouse when it boots  up.  I've tried a different mouse and keyboard, but with the same results.  I can't really ask him 'what was the last thing you did before the change" because he's only 4, and wouldn't know anyway.  He's kind of a closet hacker, because I seem to un-fix everything he's fixed on his computer for him,(He's used this computer since age 2 1/2)    ...however, this time, I'm not sure what to do.

Under Hardware devices, it does indeed show the mouse diabled.  However it is plugged in.
I also checked the waste can to make sure he didn't delete the mouse driver, shows no MS drivers in there deleted.

Any clues?  He's a Warbirds junky (Doesn't have AH, won't run with his PII-200) and needs his daily 'fix'.

Mouse detection in Win95 is pretty basic.

I'd check the bios first and make sure something hasn't been disabled/enabled.

Or remove the mouse completely under Windows device manager, reboot the PC and let windows re-discover it

an off the wall thought, but check IRQ conflicts. I had a PnP Modem switch com # on me one time and it did exactly what you are seeing. Good Luck

WOW, now that's community!  Fast replies!  Thanks, I'll look into those things, starting with Westy's suggestion first! <S>

(I want you to know that I take NO responsibility when Gordon goes 'online' in the future and he shoots your butts down.  Currently, at age 4, he can take out the buff drones in Warbirds offline with the FW190A8)

<Grumbling on>  After another 1.5 hours of dinking around, I told the wife I made no progress.  She went into  the office, wiggled the adapter plug around a bit, came out smirking, and said "I fixed it!".....<grumbling off>

HA HA rip, I know exactly how you feel. After my last format and reinstall, I couldnt get my modem to work. Farted around for hours. Said no dialtone, so I plugged my phone into the jack, dialtone. Tried modem, nothing, tried another modem, nothing. Finally figured out it was a faulty phone cable

I for one am embarrased.  I actually thought to say check the connection or change the mouse a few minutes after I posted above, but I then thought, nah, Rip will think I'm being a sarcastic jerk
