i have seen alot of peiople that have it set to bits insted of bites when they dl, so insted of showing 88kbs a sec is shows bits
(88x8=704) or 704kbps

I don't know if you can with IE.  When I was first looking into getting my DSL line I din't know a bit from a byte, and the ISPs didn't help it any.  I poked around in the internet options a bit, but couldn't find the option.

For anyone out there who is as clueless as I was, a bit times 8 equals a byte.  I had a 1.1 megabit dsl line, so my optimum download speed was 137 kilobytes per second.

As it is with my cable modem, I average about 100 - 150 kilobytes per second, and when hitting the right site at the right time have gotten over 400 kilobytes per second.    And yes, I did post this last paragraph just to say I could download that fast.

IE normally shows average download speeds in Kilo Bytes per second.

Where 1 byte = 8 bits and 1K Byte = 1024 Bytes (not 1000).
1 Meg (1 Mega Byte) is 1000 times that => 1,024,000 Bytes => 8,192,000 Bits.

right for simplicity you can use the (IMO best) french term for a Byte : an Octet

I don't run Nutscrape, so I can't help you with changing it.

However, the easy way to tell which one is meant is the size of the letter B.

KB is Kilo Byte, Kb is Kilo bit.  FYI.

I find this DU Meter quite handy when down-or uploading stuff. Well W2k got a nice inbuilt too but this one is smaller and won't take all the space from my 17'

Edit...
You can change display units to kB/sec or kbps.
