Called Saitek today and they say the X45 won't be available till September.

Currently holding my breath. They said it made no difference if I turned blue I have to wait

I saw the link on DogFightr to "Read more about it" and found, well, nothing to read.

How do you guys like the X36? I may opt for that since my current stick is dying...the MsSidewinder Pro rudder inputs are all but fried. If you see a lancaster rolling off the runway on takeoff, thats me....trim makes no diff

I'd wait for suckers like myself to order and try the new X45 before you make a choise.

Currently I'm using the X36 and like it except it is tied to Internet Explorer for programing. The new X45 will have it's own software for programing. That is what appeals to me. Besides X36 $99.95, X45 $79.95. http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html

This is a reconditioned product and may give you trouble if you order, but Saitek has replaced any bad sticks according to Saitekhelp forum. Prolly worth the gamble. I ordered one as backup and had no problems

However, X36 isn't a bad choise though.

X-36 is pretty damn good - more buttons than you can shake a stick at and the programming's pretty easy, but the SGE (programming software) adds tons of crud into your registry and alters all sorts of gubbins in explorer and gaming control panels - verry dodgy. That said - if it works, it works nicely.
It works with CH Pro Pedals USB, and there's a hack driver available to treat the two together as a single stick (don't need it for AH).
On the duff side, it doesn't have a Win2k programable driver, you're stuck with Direct X buttons only for the time being if you're in Win 2K...
I used to have CH Products Fighterstick and throttle (well, on a Mac), but I reckon the saitek has the edge (more buttons, and the stick is human-sized, rather than bear-sized) and it's cheaper too, last time I looked.
I'd wait for the X-45, because of the new non-explorer hacking/wrecking software. Otherwise the X-45 looks like an X-36.1, and if so it'll be well worth buying. The only questionable bit is the new software - but hopefully it'll be more sanely thought out than SGE.

1776 has X36, PCDash 2, and game commander2.

Now if one could figure out how to incorporate somthing like Dragon voice printing thingie, wouldn't need a keyboard cep for programing

Whether or not the X36's software is tied to Explorer (erm, windows explorer which is ironically now part of IE since Win98), doesn't matter.

The software it's shipped with on CD works perfectly well for me, is very easy to use and loads very quickly.

If they use the same way to program the X45 as the X36, I would have no problems since it works completely fine for me.

Found the pic of it on the Saitek site, it appears to be just a spring around the JS shaft, as I've got TWO USB Saitek X-36's I'm thinking of taking the one with the broken HAT1 switch apart as a feeler to putting my own spring in on my good one.

I originally ordered a $99 Saitek, it lasted a year before HAT switch went tits up, so I bought a REconditioned on for $40 and expect it to last another year.

Saitek has a real cheap HAT switch and may people have hadda send in for replacement/repair.

Other than that it's a good stick, a bit touchy perhaps and in dire need of that spring.
