I was thinking it was your post, but then never know. Try not to do a dry start of your engine without it in water. I'm sure you know this but, just in case. Can ruin a impeller pretty fast. I use a 6 gallon pail of water and garden hose with running water with my evinrude 25 horse. Just started it 2 weeks ago, had not been started in about 5 years.

I don't know if you just said this, but always start up the outboard with muffs attached to the water intake valves with a hose attached to the muffs. I heard bucket and something just didn't sound right... and I live in Kentucky  :lol

I don't know what you mean by muffs. Must be some type of attachment which goes to the water cooling intake. I use a bucket-o-water. I suppose a 40 horse may be to big for a bucket-o-water.

You should always use muffs if it is above 30 HP I believe, it's just a safety issue and you don't really want anything fried if it doesn't have to be
