Whats the best sound card out now?
« on: December 14, 2000, 02:42:00 AM »
I use my computer for music listening as much as playing ah.

Im interested in getting a sound card with great sound quality.

I use a bryston 2b amp and definitive technology bp8's for speakers.

My system sounds great with AH or mp3's.

Any idea's A subwoofer out with a crossover would be great too.

I have read some are equiped with dolby 5.1 can this be used with AH?

SB live is pretty good, speakers make the biggest diff in my opinion.

It doesn't really matter.  Since Aureal went bankrupt all that is left in the high end card department is Creative Labs stuff.  Their SB live! series aren't bad cards themselves, but that Liveware software will really slow down your system.  (It's buggy too.)  Fortunately they have been improving it slowly.

good sound is 90% speakers and 10% card.

I'd take a sb16 at $19.00 with phat speakers anyday over clSBlive card and $90 4ways.

I Use a sound blaster live platinum 5.1 and DTT3500 speakers. Ive worked alot with computers and Ide have to say If you want good sound you need both a good sound card and good speakers. If you want baic straight sound for CD music Wav and Mp3 sound then a 30 dollar sound card and a good set of 2.1 spekaers will do you fine. If you want awsome Midi EAX A3d and AC3 then your gunna have to step up to a more expensive sound card and more expensive multi-channel speakers. Ive gone from a sb16 to a sb32awe to a sb64awe (all ISA) to a sb live value PCI to a SB live mp3+ PCI and finaly to a SB Live Platinum 5.1 (pci). Ive only gone threw three sets of speakers 2.1 4.1 to my DTT3500 5.1 ive always used good speakers.

Ive got over 2 grand sunk into the amp and speakers.

I guess thats good. I wish someone made a audiophile soundcard

I have a sb 64 now. So if i want a sub out i have to get a soundblaster live product it sounds like.

Does it gererate a fake sound field for ah?
I mean the surround sound processor. Is it a dolby effect?

I have some Nht and Infinity speakers that would sound great for a ah surround system.

Any ideas?

Oh yeah i have the amps to run them too. There Nads.
