Mouse problem
« on: March 04, 2001, 06:56:00 AM »
Just swapped my old bx440-2 for an Intel 815ep board and P3-1ghz. Now when I use the modem my mouse flashes rapidly between pointer and hourglass. Changed from PS2 mouse to USB and all seemed well for one day but now the problem has returned. I have no conflicts in DM so am hoping for some thoughts from you guys. Thanks,
Paul.
edit. forgot to mention I tried a USB modem with the same results
edit. seem to have fixed it - went through DM/system devices and updated quite a few drivers; fingers crossed my mouse is flicker free, hehe!!

Problem has returned    Anybody have any thoughts on the subject as I've run out of ideas. It's not consistent - I can dial up one time and there's no problem; then the next time it starts up again. HELP please!

Well, whilst I was waiting for some help, decided to do a "dirty" reinstall of Win 98SE. Mouse is now behaving so maybe there was a corrupt file somewhere that SFC failed to notice. Watch this space!

The problem has returned again after a session with no problems   It's modem related as I said before but after trying it in every available pci slot I'm at a loss. Have conected a usb intellimouse with latest drivers and still have the problem. Have no conflicts showing anywhere in DM so am hoping someone here can shed some light on this problem. Thanks guys.

Very odd. Try removing the connection icon on the taskbar.  my computer>dial up networking>connection menu> pick settings> uncheck show icon after connected (or something like that, should be the top option on the list.)

If it doesn't work, just set it back.

Saw/bloom, have tried both suggestions but no difference   As a last resort I have borrowed a Courier-v-everything external to see if that cures the problem. Trying desperately to avoid a reformat but may have to bite the bullet. In the meantime if anyone else has had the same problem and managed to cure it I'd be very happy to hear from you

Just an update for anybody having similar problems - took the second replacement modem back to PC World and swapped it for an Elsa Microlink Office with serial port connection - all mouse problems gone. Have to say this modem is superb for £49.99. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a new modem and has a spare serial port.
