Matrox triple head vs Eyefinity?
« on: June 25, 2010, 10:51:54 AM »
Looking to run a 3 monitor display. Any benefit to using a matrox triple head now that the ATI 5870 Eyefinity can handle up to 6 monitors?

The video card has to do all the work for both configurations.  The basic difference is whose software you use to control it all.  ATI is still evolving their software.

The other basic difference is ATI requires monitors with "Displayports", while Matrox will be happy to use the DVI/HDMI port.

Actually, that's not necessarily the case.  ATI recommends using DP, but you don't have to.  I took the liberty of taking a SCREENSHOT of the page at http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/gpu50-ati-eyefinity-display-connectivity.aspx that shows this.

Ahhh, ok, so they did extend support for Eyeinfinity to HDMI/DVI ports.  Initially they only had it for Displayport devices and said they would add support for HDMI/DVI later.

I guess "later" got here.

In most cards you have to have at least one displayport monitor to get 3 screen eyefinity because there are only two dvi ports and a dp port.

I run a TH2Go on a low end PC that has no PCIe slot, I have NO issues at all and I get descent FPS
*note*  when sitting in the pilots seat the screens line up (it looks that way due to paralax error.)
