Hi
I have just installed a GF2 Pro 64 Mb in my computer and Im not happy with the fps Im getting.
If Im at a base, on the runway with a fewplanes in the air, Im getting about 18-20 fps. Getting some altitude makes the fps increase to about 25. If Im at low alt and there are lots of planes it can go down to 13-15 fps.
On average Im getting about 20-25 fps when flying. Is this normal?
I have tried all different resolutions and 16 and 32 bit color but that doesnt change fps at all for some strange reason. Ok, if I go to 1600x1200 it drops by about 5 fps.

My system:

PIII 500
GF2 Pro 64 mb
Tekram motherboard, 2xagp
256 mb ram pc 100
Emu APS soundcard
Terasound soundcard
S3 Virge 4 mb graphicscard (for my second monitor)

Reason for 2 soundcards is that Im using the Emu APS for making music. I cant get RW to work with that so I had to install another soundcard, Terasound.

It looks to me like Im having my GF2 and Emu Aps on IRQ 5 and
S3 Virge, Terasound and Kingston networkcard on IRQ 11.
Could this be the reson Im not getting higher fps?
If so, what can I do to solve the problem and how do I do it?

None of the cards are installed in the pci slot next to agp port.

Your USB port is sharing an interrupt with the Video card. You need to get them on separate interrupts and that will probably solve your performance issue.

did you download the newest drivers?
www.nvidia.com

also did you install directx8?
www.microsoft.com/directx

also try the 21.85 drivers (those are beta)

Skuzzy, can you explain how to get them on different irq please?
Is it ok to have vidocard and soundcard on the same irq?

Jpg, I´m using the latest drivers, 21.83 and Directx 8.0A. I will try 21.85 to see if it that makes any difference.

No,, in an ideal world you want all the cards to have thier own interrupts. It takes some work to get there though.
You need to know how the motherboard has its PCI slots set to hardware share interrupts with the AGP and USB bus, or another PCI slot.
If all your cards are in slots that are not hardware shared, then it is just a matter of going into your BIOS rom and manually setting the interrupts to each of the occupied PCI slots so they are different.
Be prepared to reinstall drivers and such as once you change an interrupt, either in the BIOS or by moving the card from one slot to another, Windows will want to reinstall the drvers.

Thanks for your help Skuzzy.

Ive been looking into this tonight but dont seem to be able to sort it out. Maybe I have to many cards installed?
At one time I managed to get my GF2 on a separate irq, but instead I got 4 other cards sharing another irq.

What I dont understand is how I can have the exact same fps no matter if Im running at 800x600 or 1200x1020(16k or 32k). I was expecting to get a bit higher fps if I dropped resolution but I dont.

Anyway, thanks again. Ill keep trying:-)

The reason you get the same Framerate no matter the resolution is that the cpu can't give anymore. You don't have enough power for that video card with 500mhz. Time for an upgrade.
